The DJI Avata is an entry FPV drone for beginners. I have been using it for over a year, and flying it has been a pleasure. FPV stands for First Person View. It lets you wear a headset and see exactly what the drone sees. It’s great for capturing fast and exciting action, and if you crash, no problem. The Avata is made to be crashed. Even in 2025, it’s still a solid choice because of the price, how easy it is to fly, and the fact that the DJI Avata 2 really isn’t really that much better.

Let’s start with the price. Mahlan Media does not have a lot of money to waste, so this was a huge consideration when looking at buying one. The DJI Avata costs 800 dollars. That might seem like a lot, especially when you can build your own drone for around 400. However, the upgrades are obvious. The Avata has a 4K 120 fps camera, a 1 over 1.7 CMOS sensor. It has one of the best FPV headsets out there, and a controller that’s super fun to fly with. You might be thinking: ok cool, but doesn’t the Avata 2 do all that and more? Yeah, it does, but not by much. For 300 dollars more, you’re basically getting a camera that’s a little better in low light and about 7 more minutes of flight time.

What really makes the Avata worth it is how easy it is to fly. It has stuff like emergency brake, hover mode, and return to home. It's the only drone with RTH in the world (besides the avata 2). This is really helpful and I have used it many times. It’s also built tough. The built-in prop guards and strong frame make it perfect for crashing over and over and over and over and over again.

So yes, the DJI Avata is still worth it in 2025.
